Students in Engineering |
What I'm Seeking |
Students around the world are trained to know what they want to do before they get to college. For some it can be a stressful experience. For others it is a breeze. I want to understand why young student’s are so drawn into engineering and what will make it easier for students to discover their passion earlier like I did. My Expedition for Knowledge
My research and interview has lead me to conclude that most students are drawn into engineering and other career classes not because they understand fully what it is, but because they are curious and had an open slot. I believe that students should have more options for CIET, career classes, which will allow students to determine quicker and more efficiently career field they would want to do. My research comes from interviews, college research papers, and research from doctorates so there is little bias because they are seeking for information rather than persuading an audience. |
It excites me to discover the answer because I can see how there’s others who also are like me who strive to be future engineers and what drives students to these classes.
I feel that it accurately reflects what I desire from my question because, like me, I want to figure out why people are so drawn into engineering and what got them intrigued with this career field. I picked this question because engineering has affected me in a very positive manner, and I believe that it has also affected others in the same way it has to me. My Realization
Before I conducted my research I thought everyone was like me, but my results from my survey indicate that around 50% of students, who take engineering, find it almost blindly. They sign up for the class to fill in an empty spot in their schedule, or wanted to be with computers for an hour at a time.
I discovered that we need to bring in more attention to students about what engineering is and achieve higher attendance nation wide, so that way we can have the next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. Engineering is not just a class for the kids who love math and computers, it is much more than that, it allows any student to train their brain to prepare them for the real world of problem solving and working around schedules. For that reason more students should be interested and enrolling in an engineering class. |
Science is about knowing; engineering is about doing
